Sail on the high seas with your HR Colleagues

Lee Geiger
"Navigating the FLSA - Pay Me Now or Pay Me (More) Later"

Learning Objectives:

    1. To understand the difference between exempt and non-exempt classifications.
    2. To understand how to classsify employees into appropriate white collar categories.
    3. To understand and prevent common Wage & Hour mistakes employers make.

Session Description:

What do you mean? The employee is not exempt? Really? Uh-oh! How can I fix the problem while minimizing risk to my company? Incorrectly classifying non-exempt employees as exempt from the FLSA's overtime rules can be a VERY costly mistake. We will demystify the FLSA's white-collar exemptions and examine the factors that the Department of Labor considers when auditing your company's pay records. (Hint: paying employees on a salary basis is not enough.) We'll review the FLS's white collar exemptions - some you've heard of and some obscure exemptions that just might save the day! We'll also cover common mistakes employers make with both exempt and non-exempt employees that can put them in shark-infested waters. Finally, we'll work through some practical examples to help participants better classify employees within their company. By the end of the session, participants will have the tools they need to identify potential problem areas within their company. The session will be fun and you'll learn something in the process! Guaranteed!
